Our Story
Queer SaQred was born from a question many LGBTIQ+ people know intimately:
Can I be queer and still belong?
For some, it is a theological question. For many of us, it is deeply spiritual.
It is about belonging.
It is about faith.
It is about survival.
We believe people should not have to choose between authenticity and spirituality. We believe faith and queerness are not enemies. We believe healing is possible after harmful religious experiences. We believe people can reclaim their stories, rediscover their sacred worth, and find new ways of relating to faith, spirituality, and community.
It is about childhood prayers and sacred texts. It is about family, community, rejection, shame, and the fear that embracing who you are might mean losing a faith, spirituality, or sense of belonging that has shaped your life.
Queer SaQred exists in that space.
Spirituality invites us back to ourselves. It encourages us to listen to the wisdom within, reconnect with our authentic selves, and discover that our truth is not something to be feared, but embraced.
Through storytelling, education, spiritual reflection, and community-building, Queer SaQred seeks to create spaces where LGBTQ+ people can ask difficult questions, wrestle honestly with faith, and explore new possibilities for belonging. We are especially committed to serving those whose experiences have been shaped by African cultures, religious traditions, and communities where affirming resources are often difficult to find.
We believe faith can be deconstructed and reimagined. Spiritual wounds can begin to heal. Stories can be reclaimed. Communities can be rebuilt.
Most importantly, we believe people can discover that their sexuality does not make them less worthy of dignity, love, or belonging.
At Queer SaQred, we believe healing begins when we embrace the fullness of who we are—recognizing that our queerness, our spirituality, and our humanity were never in conflict.
Because to simply be is sacred.
